Once upon a time, people cared. Many of them possessed a great respect for their environment, as well as their fellow people. Life and death were chains of hardship carried by all. The links of which had carried more weight than any material possession. It was this struggle that forged their preservation, and tempered their beliefs.
Within this set of beliefs, people and the lands flourished. With balance grew an understanding of the balance. Soon there arose a sense of guardianship for nature. A realization of the benefits we reaped from its safeguard. There is however, a balanced opposition to all things.
